PRINT COMPARISON

the different versions of this comic can be split into three separate releases, if you will:

2006 RELEASE

the original self published webcomic release, hosted on sugarboukas. done completely in black and white, except for the stories "like heaven" and "mindf*ck." it's entirely hand lettered, which adds to this release's charm though it can make some lines a bit difficult to parse. this version was also sold at cons as zines, being separated into two different issues instead of being compiled into one book.

the physical releases of these issues are virtually impossible to find, with reportedly few being sold and even less reappearing online. i've only ever found a single archived auction for both issues, with the few pictures of them online coming from the same post.

2010 RELEASE

the first official print release, published by albatross exploding funnybooks in 2010. now with an added grey tone in all stories for extra shadows, plus a foreword and some lovely cover art done by eric powell. most of the lettering has been redone and replaced with text, save for effects or certain lines that read better with the original lettering.

this release is basically obsolete at this point, as it's no longer being produced and is considered somewhat of a collectable. copies of it occasionally show up here and there, but they don't come without a cost. you can read a transcript of this version's foreword here.

2019 RELEASE

the full color release, published again by albatross exploding funnybooks in 2019. rendered beautifully by colorist rachael cohen, with text again being redone and more noticeably edited [mainly with the removal of slurs]. both the foreword and cover art from the 2010 release have been replaced with those done by rebecca sugar. the general layout of everything has been overhauled to look more polished, though preservation of the original drawings and panels has been done wonderfully for the most part! there is also a small section in the back dedicated to showing lots of neat development sketches, along with the first few pages of "the day the blouse stood still" without the dialogue inked in.

this is the most readily available release, as you can find it decently cheap either new or used. you can read a transcript of this version's preface here.

HOW DO YOU READ THIS THING?

due to the hard copy releases and the closure of sugarboukas, there isn't an official version of pug up online anymore. what remains are old scans scattered across free to read comic websites and tumblr archives, not impossible to find but not exactly favorable either,,

however, for the sake of access and preservation, i've compiled what i could find of both the 2006 and 2010 releases for you to download below! if you like what you read, i would encourage you to pick up a copy of the 2019 release and give it a flip through ♡ enjoy!
